BAKERSFIELD SHOULD SHAKE UP WESTERN MIDGET STANDINGS

The 2006 USAC Western Midget Car Series resumes Saturday night at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway as series regulars are expected to "shake up" the current standings.

National competitors occupy the top-10 positions in the current points following the series opener in January at Phoenix International Raceway but Californians competing for this year's title are expected to grab the headlines at Bakersfield's 1/3-mile dirt oval.

Defending series champion Jerome Rodela of El Monte, runnerup Robby Flock of Murrieta, Norco's Tyler Brown, Chico's Ryan Kaplan and Alamo's Scott Pierovich could be drivers to beat. Flock recorded his 50th career Western Midget victory at Bakersfield last year and Kaplan also was victorious there.

A 30-lap feature caps Saturday's program, which also includes USAC's California Dirt Ford Focus Series.
