Yeley takes Kokomo; rain postpones "Hut Hundred" 2nd Mopar "Buckeye Nationals" starts Wednesday at Attica.

J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. captured Sunday night's 30-lap USAC National Midget Car race at the Kokomo, Ind. Speedway and returned to the point lead in the series in search of the USAC "Triple Crown" championship. He'll continue his search for that title in this week's 2nd Mopar "Buckeye Nationals" events at four Ohio race tracks.

Friday night's 52nd Clabber Girl "Hut Hundred" at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track was rained out and has been rescheduled for Saturday night, September 6.

This week's "Buckeye Nationals" opens Wednesday night at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park. Thursday night's venue is the New Fremont Speedway in Fremont, while Friday night's races are at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima. Saturday night's finale is at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Times at the first three venues reflect practice at 6 pm and racing at 7:30. Eldora's Saturday timetable has practice at 6:30, qualifying at 7 and racing at 8. Each National Midget Car feature is 30 laps, except for Eldora, which has a 25-lapper.

Yeley recorded his 12th USAC National feature victory of the 2003 season Sunday night at Kokomo in the ASE/Ford Beast/Pink Ford, leading the final 25 laps of the 30-lap race on the 1/4-mile dirt track. He passed Tracy Hines on lap six and was trailed at the checkered flag by Jay Drake, Jerry Coons, Jr., Shane Cottle and Ron Gregory. Road to Indy fast qualifier Hines failed to finish the race and slipped to third in the new series standings as a result.

Yeley's victory was his fifth in this year's National Midget campaign. Last year he scored "Buckeye Nationals" feature wins at Fremont and Rossburg.
