USAC drivers to add depth to Valvoline Cup open wheel roster.
Ranking as one of the oldest and most prestigious racing sanctions in the United States, the United States Auto Club (USAC) has pledged their support of the Valvoline Cup, providing a challenge to open wheel drivers all across America to take on America's best.
"Valvoline and USAC have a great deal in common, as both have enjoyed such a rich heritage in motorsports for so many decades. We are pleased to be involved, and to have our drivers participate in such a landmark grassroots racing program", stated Rollie Helmling, President of USAC.
Sanctioning three major open wheel divisions, including the Weld Racing Silver Crown Championship Series, Stoops Freightliner National Sprint Car Series, and the USAC National Midget Series, USAC has earned it's acclaim as a leader in open wheel racing. Operating under the Road to Indy program since its inception, USAC has produced such stars as IRL Champion Tony Stewart, Winston Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, as well as numerous other household names, such as Andretti, Unser, and Foyt.
"We are honored to have the participation of USAC in the Valvoline Cup", said Mikel Hartman, Motorsports Marketing Manager for the Valvoline Company. "Having grown up in Pittsboro, Indiana, just outside of Indianapolis, I have been very fortunate to have enjoyed a lifetime of first rate racing, and to have witnessed first hand the development of many grassroots racers into today's racing stars."
In addition to its national divisions, USAC also reaches into the west, sanctioning the Western Sprint Series, Western Midgets, and the Russell Triple Crown Pro Series. New in 2001, USAC has taken the lead in developing an economical midget car for grassroots racers, thus the creation of the USAC Ford Focus Midget car Series.
The Valvoline Cup is only the latest evidence of Valvoline's support of grassroots racers. Valvoline is a contingency sponsor in NHRA drag racing and for the past six years has been the No. 1 choice of motor oil by NHRA sportsmen-class racers at NHRA pro events. For the past 17 years, Valvoline has sponsored the national championships for the Sports Car Club of America, The SCCA Valvoline Runoffs®.
