"Wally" Scherer, age 58, a resident of Kettering, Ohio passed away Tuesday May 29 2001.

Wally was a lifetime member of the DARF and an Official Starter for USAC for 24 years in the Silver Crown and Sprint Car Divisions. He was a lifetime member of the Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club and an former officer of that organization

He was an F.O.E. Aerie #321 a Sons of the American Legion #675 and a Associate Member of the VFW #9927.

A Funeral Service was held 11:30 AM Monday, June 4 2001 at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Dayton, Ohio. USAC Chaplain Ron Eskew officiated.

Interment was at Glen Haven Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation was completed Sunday, June 3, 2001 at the funeral home.

Donations in Wally's memory may be made to the Dayton Auto Race Fan Injured Drivers Fund c/o the Tobias Funeral Home.

Scherer was survived by his mother Dorothy Scherer of Dayton; two daughters and sons-in-law Stacey & Chris Upton of Beavercreek and Jo "Kelley" & Tom Robinson of Dayton; two step daughters Renee Adams and Laura Long; sister and brother-in-law Linda & Mike Sullivan of Beavercreek; brother and sister-in-law Dave & Linda Scherer of Kettering; three grandchildren Zachary Ashley and Tyler; three nieces Missy Melinda and Michelle one nephew David; Linda Smith mother of Stacey and Jo; and special friend Marvalyn Steggemann.
