"TOYOTA CHALLENGE OPENER RE-SCHEDULED FOR TRI-STATE SPEEDWAY
TORRANCE, Calif. (April 25, 2007) - After rain forced the cancellation of the All-State 100 presented by Toyota USAC Midget Series event at Thunder Hill Speedway on April 7, the first-round of the Toyota Challenge has been re-scheduled for the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. on May 12.
The Circle of Champions Presented by Kenny Kent Toyota will join the May 26 Toyota USAC Night Before the 500 and the June 16 Toyota USAC Racing Classic, both at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis (ORP), as part of the three-event "championship within a championship" that will award a $25,000 prize fund. Included in the prize fund will be a $15,000 award to the Toyota Challenge champion. Keith Kunz Motorsports won the inaugural Toyota Challenge last season.
"It was disappointing that the first scheduled Toyota Challenge race was rained out, but we're thrilled to replace it with what should be a terrific Circle of Champions night," said Les Unger, Toyota national motorsports manager. "The Tri-State Speedway is just down the road from our Princeton, Ind. TMMI truck plant and we're looking forward to having a number of our Toyota associates on hand. In addition, this will allow us to include one dirt-track event into this year's Toyota Challenge."
The Toyota Challenge event is one of three major USAC initiatives implemented by Toyota. The manufacturer will offer a unique year-end owner's bonus fund that can total up to $25,000 to recognize and support entrant participation. At the end of the season, the top-10 point standings USAC National Midget Series team owners will receive $100 for every event entered in the 2007 schedule.
In addition, the USAC National Midget Racing Series also will be a part of Toyota Motorsports/TRD, U.S.A. Contingency Awards Program that is designed to reward exemplary performance.
