Tony Stewart Racing's Jones, Stenhouse, Jr., Return to Indiana for Fourth Straight Weekend of USAC Midget Series Action
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 11, 2007) -- Tony Stewart Racing's (TSR) USAC driving duo of Levi Jones and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., are set to hit the pavement for a fourth consecutive week of USAC National Midget Car Series action as they head to the high-banks of Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. Jones and Stenhouse will make their first appearance at the quarter-mile dirt track in Saturday's event, which will also mark the first appearance by the USAC Midget Series at the facility since 2004.
Coming off his first career Midget victory at the Plymouth (Wis.) Dirt Track last Friday, Jones will look to grab his first pavement win in the series at Anderson. He currently leads the USAC National Sprint Car standings with 1,206 points and is ranked seventh in the USAC Midget championship with 786 points.
Stenhouse will again be looking to gain ground in the USAC Midget championship this weekend. The 19-year-old is only 202 points behind leader Jerry Coons, Jr., and is looking for his first national title. Stenhouse has won four Midget races this year -- two USAC/POWRi co-sanctioned events and two USAC Midget events. He is ranked fourth in the standings with 928 points.
Saturday's USAC Midget event at Anderson Speedway will feature a 30-lap race. Gates will open at 5 p.m. EDT with hot laps scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Racing is set to begin at 8 p.m. The official Web site of Anderson Speedway is www.andersonspeedway.com.
Quotes from Levi Jones, driver of the No. 20 TSR/Chevrolet/BEAST -- USAC National Midget Series
Having won your first career USAC Midget Series race last weekend, are you looking forward to competing with the series again this weekend at Anderson Speedway?
"Even though I am only in my second full season of competing with the USAC Midget Series, it took too long to get that first win. You never want to wait that long to get your first victory in a series. I'm really excited about heading to Anderson this Saturday. Even though I've never competed in a Midget at the track, I have a win there in the Sprint car. Any time you lead or run at the front at a track, you know a little bit more about what to expect when you go back. We didn't test the Midgets at Anderson this year but we've got a lot of laps in the Sprint car. I'm counting on that information to help us this weekend. That, as well as the help that Tracy Hines has been giving us, will definitely give us a good shot at putting Chevrolet and Bass Pro Shops back in victory lane."
Quote from Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., driver of the No. 21 TSR/Chevrolet/BEAST -- USAC National Midget Series
This Saturday's race will be your first event in the Midget at Anderson Speedway. Having won four USAC Midget races this season, are you looking to pick up your first series pavement win this weekend?
"I have a few laps in a Midget at Anderson. I tested a Midget for Bob East before I came to TSR in May. I learned a lot in taking those laps and I think that will really help me adjust to the track this weekend. I'm also looking forward to seeing how the changes we've made with the Midget engines will adapt on a pavement track. We've really worked on the pick-up and the Chevys were really good at Plymouth last Friday. If we qualify well and put ourselves in a position to be at the front near the end of the race, I think we could potentially get our first pavement Midget win. It's also been good to have several weeks in a row in the Midget. We've really been able to use what we've learned from week to week."
