Tony Stewart Racing's Jones, Stenhouse, Jr., Head to Eastern Seaboard for First Look at Pennsylvania and Maryland Racing Action
INDIANAPOLIS (June 4, 2007) -- Tony Stewart Racing's (TSR) Levi Jones and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., will help write a chapter in USAC Racing's history this week as they travel with the USAC National Sprint Car Series to the eastern seaboard for the first time in more than 30 years. Racing action will kick off on Wednesday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., followed by a stop in Minersville, Pa., at Big Diamond Raceway on Thursday. The eastern charge will culminate at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md., on Saturday.
This week's racing action will mark the first time that either Jones or Stenhouse will take to the dirt of the three facilities. Wednesday's event at Grandview Speedway will see the USAC Sprint Series compete on a 1/3-mile dirt oval. Big Diamond Raceway is a 3/8-mile dirt facility and Hagerstown Speedway boasts one of the only true half-mile dirt ovals in the country.
The No. 20 TSR/Chevrolet/Maxim team has won two USAC Sprint Series features in 2007, making Jones the only repeat winner of the year. Stenhouse has a USAC National Midget Car Series triumph to his credit, and he'll seek his first USAC Sprint Series win this week. Jones is ranked second in the series standings with 319 points. He trails leader Darren Hagen by 26 markers. Stenhouse is ranked 19th in the series standings after missing the first three events of the season.
Racing at Grandview Speedway will get underway at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Wednesday. Tickets can be purchased by calling 610-754-7688. Thursday at Big Diamond Raceway, grandstand gates will open at 3 p.m. EDT. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling 570-385-0744. Quote from Levi Jones, driver of the No. 20 TSR/Chevrolet/Maxim
Having competed at race tracks around the country, are you looking forward to heading to the east coast this week?
"It's really cool that we're going to three tracks that a lot of us who currently race in the USAC Sprint Series have never seen. I've heard a lot about these three tracks from the winged sprint car teams and they always talk about how tough it is to win on the east coast. Just like in Indiana and Ohio, there are a number of guys who can win on any given night out there. We're hoping to give Chevrolet and Bass Pro Shops the chance to put their brand names in the history books in a different aspect of USAC Racing."
Quote from Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., driver of the No. 21 TSR/Chevrolet/Maxim
Although you've competed in the winged sprint car ranks, you've never visited these three tracks. Do you enjoy competing at unfamiliar facilities?
"Having come from the winged car series, I really enjoy traveling to different race tracks in other parts of the country. It's part of the learning process. When you roll into a new facility, you have to learn how to get around there. I've heard a lot about how tough racing in the eastern part of the country is and I'm looking forward to getting a firsthand look at the teams and tracks. I just really try to go with the flow when we head somewhere new. I am confident that we'll have good cars all three nights. We're going to learn what we can, but we're also going to try to put Chevrolet and Bass Pro Shops in the winner's circle along the way."
