USAC TO RETURN TO TOLEDO FOR AN UNFORGETABLE SPRINT AND MIDGET DOUBLE-HEADER
Toledo, Ohio - The stars of the USAC Valvoline National Sprint car series along with the stars of the USAC National Midget Series will assemble for the first time together for the 6th Annual Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness Night Friday, July 8 at Toledo Speedway. This year marks the first time that event will host both series on the same night for one price! Valvoline has signed on as an associate sponsor for the date.
Indianapolis 500 winning car owner and Indy Racing League IndyCar Series Championship winning owner, Ron Hemelgarn, will sponsor the evening's events. Hemelgarn, a Toledo native, has always believed that grass roots racing is the backbone of the sport. He also believes that we should honor those who paved the way for the racers of today. Once again, there will be a Racer's Reunion on raceday. Former USAC Sprint and Midget drivers are invited to attend as guests of Ron and Toledo Speedway.
"We want the fans to get to see and meet the people that built the sport," stated Hemelgarn. "Fans have heard their names and read about them. Now they can see for themselves all the drivers that made USAC Racing what it is today."
The group will meet at the Speedway Bar and Grille Banquet room located on the grounds of the track. A luncheon is being planned for those attending the event. The group of legends will be introduced to the fans prior to the start of the race. Several vintage race cars are scheduled to be on display in the spectator concourse. Former drivers should call Duke Cook at 419-230-3534 to make reservations.
Toledo has a long and storied history with USAC sprint car racing. Drivers such as Tom Sneva, Gary Bettenhausen, Tom Bigelow, Lee Kunzman, Larry Dickson, Pancho Carter and many more thrilled the standing-room only crowds at Toledo Speedway in 1970's. Hemelgarn brought the USAC sprinters back after a long absence. Now, with the addition of the USAC Midgets and legends that made the sport what it is today, this event will be a can't miss opportunity.
Practice for 6th Annual Hemelgarn Racing/Super Fitness Night will begin at 3pm, time trials are set for 5pm and racing is scheduled to get underway at 7:30pm Friday evening, July 8. The box office will open at 3pm race day. Toledo Speedway is located on Benore Road at the I-75/Alexis Road exit on the Michigan-Ohio border. The track phone number is 419-727-1100.
