R.E. TECHNOLOGIES HEADS TO THE HUT
Memphis, Tenn. -- June 1, 2005 -- The R.E. Technologies Racing team heads to the Terre Haute Action Track for round three of the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series at the "Sumar Classic 100" Saturday.
"I think it will be a good weekend," said driver Jerry Coons Jr. "Friday was frustrating but we will bounce back from it."
The team has recorded three top fifteen finishes in the last three years at the ½ mile dirt oval. The size of the "Action Track" should provide some excitement for the fans.
"I have run there a lot in a sprint and midget cars," stated Coons. "The race could be more like a sprint car race than a long Silver Crown race although it is still 100 laps."
Coons and the other Silver Crown drivers will be aiming for Jay Drake's qualifying record time of 20.170 seconds that was set in 2003.
SPRINTS AND MIDGETS
Jerry Coons Jr. finished third in the USAC National Midget Series Coca-Cola Night Before the 500 Saturday night at IRP. Coons, driving the No. 11 Mopar entry for Wilke-Pak Motorsports, started on the pole of the event and pulled away from the pack after winning a battle with Billy Wease on the first lap. Coons led for 29 laps of the 50 lap event before relinquishing the lead to Ron Gregory. Jerry Coons Jr. finished third behind winner Michael Lewis and Gregory.
Jerry Coons Jr. is scheduled to drive the No. 69 USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car for Hoffman Auto Racing Friday night at Gas City in the conclusion of Boarder Wars XI. Coons is tied for third in Boarder Wars points with Rob Chaney.
