Dave Darland, Aaron Fike and Dave Steele posted USAC Midget Car feature victories last weekend but J.J. Yeley and Tracy Hines continue to lead the series standings in quest of USAC "Triple Crown" status.

Darland, of Lincoln, Ind., won Thursday night's twice-postponed 52nd Clabber Girl "Hut Hundred" at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track, leading the final 25 laps after passing teammate Yeley on lap 76. Trailing Darland's ASE/Ford Beast/Pink Ford at the checkered flag were Yeley, Bobby East, Mike Hess and Boston Reid. Hines finished 17th in the 100-lap race.

Aaron Fike of Galesburg, Ind. passed Yeley on the 12th lap of Saturday night's 25-lap "Mopar Twin 25s Indianapolis" USAC National Midget Car race at Indianapolis Raceway Park and led the rest of the way in his McGladrey & Pullen/Azer Clinic Beast/Pink Ford. Yeley finished second after leading the first 11 laps, with East third, A.J. Fike fourth and Jay Drake fifth.

In the second "special event" 25-lapper, which offered no National points, Aaron Fike started dead last (24th) with a chance to claim a $50,000 cash bonus from ARP for a victory. He finished sixth after a spirited charge. Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla., who claimed the $50,000 cash bonus last year for sweeping the IRP twins, won the 25-lap "special event" over Hines, Cole Carter, East and Yeley. Carter led three laps and Teddy Beach four before yielding to Steele and his Mopar/Finish Line Towing Beast/Mopar.

Jerry Coons, Jr. posted the fastest qualifying time at Terre Haute Thursday, while Hines was Saturday's fastest IRP qualifier after rains forced an IRP postponement on Friday.

The 2003 USAC National Midget Car Series resumes October 18 with the "Indy Midget 200" at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Va.

Yeley and Hines each need a National Midget title to complete the USAC "Triple Crown," since both have previously won the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown and USAC National Sprint Car Series championships. A total of 75 points separate them going into the South Boston race.
