Midgets gear ror Wednesday's 51st "Hut Hundred"
$50,000 "Showdown at the Prairie" bonus attracts Stewart.
J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. will try to protect his six-point lead over Dave Darland in the USAC National Midget Car standings this week in a pair of events rich with tradition and prizes.
The "Hut Hundred" returns to the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track for its 51st running Wednesday night, with 33 cars starting three-abreast for 100 laps around the 1/2-mile dirt track. Tracy Hines is the defending race winner and practice starts at 5:30 pm. Qualifying gets under way at 6:30 with the fastest nine qualifiers "locked in" to the top nine starting positions. The rest of the qualifiers will compete in a pair of "qualifying races" prior to the 100-lap finale. The first "qualifying race" is scheduled for 7:30 pm. This year's "Hut Hundred' is presented by Clabber Girl, Terre Haute First National Bank & the Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau.
NASCAR veteran and USAC "Triple Crown Champion" Tony Stewart will be in the field for Sunday night's Coca-Cola "Showdown at the Prairie" at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. He will compete in both the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car and USAC/BMARA Midget Car events, trying to snare the $50,000 cash bonus posted for any driver able to sweep both 25-lap feature events.
Practice at the 1/3-mile dirt oval starts at 2:30 pm. Qualifying starts at 3 and the first race is slated for 6 pm.
Also scheduled to compete in the Sun Prairie Midget Car race is NASCAR veteran and 3-time USAC National Midget Car Champion Jason Leffler.
