Southwest Sprint Car Series schedule released.

Branching out to encompass a five-state calendar, the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series is the new name for the series which debuted in 2002 as the New Mexico/Arizona Sprint Car Series.

Mike Boat is the defending champion and has his work cut out in 2003 if he intends to defend the title successfully.

A dozen point-paying races and a pair of "special" non-point post-season events are on tap, beginning with an April 12 race at Imperial Valley Speedway in El Centro, Calif.

Included in the 2003 schedule are races in California, Nevada and Colorado as well as New Mexico and Arizona. The Nevada race is set as a "special event" at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway dirt track, while Rocky Mountain National Speedway in Denver will host the Colorado appearance in July. Central Arizona Raceway in Eloy, AZ also joins the series for the first time, with a June 21 event on tap.

The popular "Labor Day Swing" is being renewed, with races already set for Hollywood Hills Speedway August 29 and Show Low, AZ August 30. Additional races are being finalized for that weekend and will released when firm.

Regional television has been discussed as a possibility for at least eight of the scheduled events and further information regarding that will be forthcoming.
