PAIR OF MISSOURI RACES THIS WEEK FOR USAC/SMRS MIDGETS; LOYET DOMINATES "HIGH PLAINS SHOOTOUT" IN KANSAS

The USAC/SMRS Great Plains Midget Series visits the "Show Me" state for back-to-back races Friday and Saturday nights in Grain Valley and Butler, Mo. The races are USAC's first in Missouri in three years.

Matt Sherrell of Owasso, Okla. holds a 28-point lead over Rick England going into the two races, at the 1/3-mile dirt Valley Speedway Friday and the 1/4-mile dirt Butler Motor Speedway Saturday. The races are the first for USAC at either facility.

Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, Mo. completed a "clean sweep" of the weekend's "High Plains Shootout" USAC/SMRS Midget program at Solomon Valley Raceway in Beloit, Kansas, winning Saturday night's 30-lap feature after an early-race duel with series point leader Sherrell. Loyet and Sherrell traded the lead back and forth for the first eight laps before Loyet put his Loyet Landscape Maintenance/Jaz Tech Spike/Esslinger Ford on top to stay on lap nine. Rick England took second at the checkered flag ahead of Andrew Deal, Evan Pardo and Chris Shiel, while mechanical problems beset Sherrell and he wound up 13th.

Loyet led all 20 laps to win Friday night's feature in Beloit. Trailing Loyet were Sherrell, Deal, Cody Brewer and Joe Cleveland.

A total of 80 USAC feature events have been conducted in Missouri, dating back to A.J. Foyt's first-ever USAC feature win, at Olympic Stadium in Kansas City in 1957.
