Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. ended several months of mechanical woes with his victory in Saturday night's "Keith McArthur Memorial" 30-lap Western Sprint Car feature event at the Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hunt passed Mike Boat on the 11th lap around the 3/8-mile paved oval and led the rest of the way in his Wynn's/AFCO Shocks/Tognotti's Auto World machine. Former USAC Western MCI WorldCom Midget Car Champ Rick Hendrix took second ahead of Curtis Brown, Dave Fitzgerald and Rick Williams. The race, the first for USAC at the facility, drew an excellent field of 35 cars. Series point leader Bud Kaeding finished 13th but continues to lead the series standings by 77 points over Hendrix going into an August 7 date at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. The USAC MCI WorldCom Midget Cars and TQ Midget Cars return to action this week. The TQs compete at the Ventura (Calif.) Fairgrounds Raceway Tuesday night in a race recently added to the 1999 calendar, then join the Midget Cars for Saturday night's scheduled "doubleheader" program at the 1/3-mile dirt Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway. A 20-lap TQ and 30-lap Midget Car feature are on tap. Marc DeBeaumont of Clayton, Calif. (Midget Cars) and Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. (TQ Midget Cars) are the respective series point leaders.
