Ryan Smith Has Successful Weekend; Looks Forward to Eldora
Kunkletown, Penn. (September 17, 2007) -- Ryan Smith had a busy weekend. He first traveled to O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, IN for the Banjo 100 PRA Big Car series on Friday night where he finished sixth. He then traveled all night to Susquehanna Speedway for the ARDC series race held on Saturday night where he finished second.
In only his third start in the PRA Big car, Ryan proved he has what it takes to play with the big dogs. He was able to qualify fifth quickest after making a few minor adjustments to his S&S Speedways No. 55 car.
"We went out for practice and we were at the bottom of the charts," explained the engineering student. "We made a few adjustments and just went all out in qualifying."
After a good call with the adjustments and a great starting spot for the 100 lap feature, Ryan was able to pull off a solid top ten finish, racing competitively with a field of seasoned drivers.
"We pretty much ran sixth the whole feature," commented Ryan. "We ran up front with Levi Jones and all those guys, so it was pretty awesome."
With momentum on their side, the team headed to Susquehanna Speedway to participate in the ARDC series where Ryan is currently leading the rookie points and sitting fourth in overall points.
Ryan started the race in the eleventh position and wasted no time making his way to the front of the field.
"I was passing cars left and right, inside and outside. If we had started higher, we would have won," commented Ryan. "We had such a fast car, we just ran out of time."
The team has done a lot of work with the No. 54 Burke Trucking machine and it is only a matter of time before Ryan makes his first trip into victory lane.
"We've got the car working just awesome now," explained the optimistic 19 year-old. "We've made so many changes the last couple of weeks. It's a totally different car."
Ryan will be heading to the Tony Stewart owned, Eldora Speedway this weekend to participate in the USAC 4 Crown Nationals, where they will be running their ARDC midget car.
"We're gonna head out there and just see what we've got," stated Ryan. "We should be good and I can't wait to race at Eldora."
