Jeff Bergener of Taylorsville, Utah held off a determined challenge from Michael Lewis to win Monday night's 40-lap USAC/SLVRA Port-O-Call Rocky Mountain Sprint Car race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Bergener led the final 17 laps of the race in his Murdock Chevrolet/Utah Properties Inspection Beast/Chevy to beat Lewis, Jimmy Wysong, fast qualifier Dave Fitzgerald and Tony Hunt. Lewis' car broke a water hose at the checkered flag and he was treated for minor burns on his knee after the race.

Jim Waters led the first six laps before yielding to Tony Hunt, who led through lap 23 before encountering braking problems.

Fitzgerald's finish left him holding a 19-point lead over Jim Waters in the series standings going into a June 7 race at the 3/8-mile paved oval.
