Fitzgerald Back in Victory Lane at Salt Lake City

Dave Fitzgerald returned to victory lane at his "home" track Saturday night and is back in the fight for the 2004 USAC/SLVRA Port O'Call Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Championship.

Fitzgerald led 24 of the 35 laps comprising the main event on Rocky Mountain Raceways' 3/8-mile paved oval, including the final 17, to beat Jimmy Wysong, Brian Evans, Mike Baisch and Jim Waters.

Mel Andrus led the first two laps, then Fitzgerald led the next seven in his Hamblin's Furniture Frames/Thriller Mfg. Special. Baisch led the next nine laps, then yielded to Fitzgerald on lap 19. Baisch emerged with a five-point series lead over defending champion Waters going into a July 24 race at RMR, which also awards points toward USAC's Valvoline Western Sprint Car championship.
