Memphis, Tenn. -- June 22, 2004 -- The R.E. Technologies Racing team is hoping for a top five repeat from last year at the Dominic's of New York 100 at Richmond International Raceway this weekend. The team started in 13th last season, conserved their tires and finished 5th.
"I am really excited about Richmond," said Boston Reid. "We have tested well at Memphis and are looking forward to a good run."
Memphis, the team's home track, is similar to the .75 mile oval at Richmond. In the off-season, Richmond International Raceway underwent a repaving project. The new asphalt has made the racetrack smoother, faster and has added more grip.
"Richmond has gotten even better since they have resurfaced it," said Team Manager Chris Santucci.
The R.E. Technologies Racing team has been in the top ten in points for most of the young season. The team is 7th in points and is looking to move up this weekend.
"We are doing well in the point's race," stated Reid. "I think that we are real close to knocking on the door. If we can have some really good runs in the next two weeks and build on them, we should be right up there at the end of the year. I am a rookie driver and the team, being well established, has given me a good car to be there at the end."
Boston Reid and the R.E. Technologies Racing team battled adversity to finish in the top fifteen in their second dirt race of the season.
"The guys gave me a great car tonight," stated Reid. "The fact that I came in, jumped in the car and only ran two good laps, which were our qualifying laps, prior to the feature is a testament to how well this car was set up."
With no practice laps on the car, the team qualified 15th quick just minutes after Reid arrived in Terre Haute, Ind. from the ARCA RE/MAX race in Kansas. When the green flag waved on the feature, Reid maneuvered a well-prepared No. 35 though traffic from 15th position to 5th by lap 60. The Indiana native held his position until lap 76 when Dave Steel made contact with the No. 35 car sending Reid spinning. Luckily the minor damage did not prevent the car from finishing the race. Instead of giving up, the team restarted at the tail end of the field and Reid worked his way up to 15th, finishing on the lead lap.
The R.E. Technologies Racing team took to the track testing under sweltering conditions at Nazareth Speedway in Nazareth, Pa. With heat indices easily reaching the upper 90's, the team tested out several combinations for the upcoming Bully Hill Vineyards 100 on August 29th with the Indy Racing League. Team Manager, Chris Santucci said he was pleased with the session. The practice marked rookie Boston Reid's first trip to the track.
"Testing went really well in Nazareth," said Reid. "The team had the car set up perfect so it was just a matter of me getting comfortable with the race track and providing the team with feedback."
