Richmond, VA- July 1, 2003- The emotions of the R.E. Technologies race team ran the gamut this past weekend during the Dominic's of New York 100 at Richmond International Raceway. The Curb Records sponsored #35 J&J piloted by Tyler Walker finished 5th, the team's best of the season. The ParkerStores sponsored #115 J&J car driven by Donny Schatz anticipated a good race. His hopes were dashed when an accident ended the weekend.

The practise started out hot and steamy but showers gave way to cooler temperatures for qualifying. Schatz and Walker went out early in the qualifying session. Schatz qualified 31st and Walker 13th.

"We didn't qualify as well as we thought we should have," said Team Manager Chris Santucci. "Most of the early cars suffered due to track conditions."

Their qualifying position forced Schatz and the ParkerStores team to run the non-qualifiers race. Coming out of turn four on the first lap, the #115 veered right and into the wall. Schatz was uninjured, but the car was done for the day.

Saturday night proved better for the Curb Records team as people poured into the stands of Richmond International Raceway. Tyler Walker started in 13th but moved up to 11th by the halfway point.

"We took our time and kept the car underneath us," said Walker. "We had a little bit of push, but we were patient and waited on it."

With 25 laps to go in the race, Walker put the Curb Records car into the fast lane, picking off cars one by one. The #35 Curb-Agajanian Special was the fastest car on the track during the final laps, but not fast enough to catch eventual winner Dave Steele. Tyler Walker finished a career best 5th.

"We needed 5 or 10 more laps and I believe we could have got there," smiled Walker. "We were a little too patient. I should have turned it up about lap 60, but waited until lap 75. I wanted to focus on saving the tires and going forward at the end, not backward. This is a good run for Curb Records, the new J&J chassis, Gaerte Engines, Sander Engineering and Kele. We can go out to Colorado now with a little bit of confidence, hopefully move up a couple more spots in points and maybe even be in the winner's circle."

ON THE TRAIL TO PIKES PEAK

The R.E. Technologies race team will run on one of their favorite tracks this weekend at Pikes Peak International Raceway. The team has two Top-10 finishes in the last two years, finishing 8th in 2001 and 9th in 2002.

"Pikes Peak is another track on our Silver Crown circuit I have never seen before so again this weekend will be a quick learning curve to get the car up to speed," states Schatz. "We are going to stick to the goals and priorities we set at the beginning of the season to get qualified for the race then focus on the race setup. I want to get as many laps as I can every weekend to gain experience in the Silver Crown cars, especially on pavement."

"I think we will go out West strong," said Walker. "Pikes Peak reminds me of Richmond, but a little wider and more racy. I will also have an opportunity to run a USAC Sprint Car out there. More track time will hopefully make me more comfortable in the USAC Silver Crown car. We need to continue to finish in the top 5 and gain some points. Hopefully we will win and I will be doing some back flips before those fireworks."

FIREWORKS ON THE TRACK AND IN THE SKY

After the checkered flag falls, Colorado Springs bands such as Accidental Superhero, Last Band on Earth and Tiny Barge and the Big Chill will be performing throughout the facility leading up to the largest fireworks display anywhere in Southern Colorado.

Single event tickets can be purchased at http://www.ppir.com/, any front range King Soopers, Western Colorado City Markets or by calling 1-888-306-7223. Individuals with a valid military ID are entitled to 50 percent off any single adult race day ticket.
