Yeley Scores Spectacular Last-Lap Win at Beaver Dam; Midgets Now Gear Up For May 21 "Hut Hundred"

Defending USAC National Midget Car Champion J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. caught Kevin Doty on the final lap of Saturday's 30-lap feature at the Raceway @ Powercom Park and recorded his 52nd USAC National win, driving the Karl Warnke Stealth/Fontana.

Yeley had to come through the semi, which he won, and he trailed Doty until the last lap when he made the winning move. Doty had assumed the lead of the race on lap 18 when a slower car spun and collected race leader Dave Darland, whose car ended atop the fourth turn concrete wall. Darland led the opening three laps, then slipped behind Brad Kuhn for the next nine laps before regaining the lead on lap 13.

Trailing Yeley and Doty at the checkered flag were Davey Ray, Cory Kruseman and Tony Elliott. Josh Wise was the fastest qualifier.

Travis Miniea was unhurt in a flip during the opening heat race.

Series point leader Bobby East was unable to post a qualifying time but made the 30-lap feature and finished 14th. He leads Yeley by 15 points and Darland by 30 going into the May 21 "Hut Hundred" at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.
