Fountain, Co. -- July 5, 2004 -- Boston Reid and the R. E. Technologies Racing team came from the back of the field to finish fourteenth Sunday at Pikes Peak International Raceway.
The top fifteen finish came at the rain shortened King Soopers Rocky Mountain Classic. The team battled tire problems Saturday during practice and qualifying.
"We unloaded with the same setup that the guys have run the past couple of years here," said Reid. "Whatever we did to change the car didn't make a difference. We had a group of bad tires"
The R. E. Technologies Racing team qualified the No. 35 Curb Records/ Valvoline sponsored car 23rd quick Saturday. The team elected to put on a new right rear tire for the race on Sunday. To do that the team was forced to give up their qualifying position and start at the rear of the field. In the warm-up session on Sunday, the new batch of tires paid off improving the team's time 4th quick. Then the thunderstorm came, dumping dime sized hail and heavy rain on the track. The Pikes Peak International Raceway crews worked feverishly to dry the track. The rain delay lasted about two and a half hours forcing USAC to shorten the Silver Crown race from 100 to 60 laps. Despite a shortened race and four cautions, driver Boston Reid charged forward passing 17 cars to finish 14th. Jay Drake won the event.
"It was a really trying weekend," stated Reid. "You could definitely tell the teams that had good tires and the teams that didn't. Even though we had difficult conditions, the team did not give up. They found the solution to the problem and we went forward in the race. Overall, it was a good finish."
The top fifteen finish improves the team's standings in the points, up to 8th.
