R.E. TECHNOLOGIES SETS SIGHTS HIGH FOR PIKES PEAK
Memphis, Tenn. -- June 28, 2005 -- After another top-twelve finish, the R.E. Technologies Racing team sets their sights on Pikes Peak International Raceway for Sunday's 100 lap Silver Crown™ race at the Rocky Mountain Classic. The team finished 14th in 2004 with Boston Reid at the wheel. This year the team returns with Jerry Coons Jr. who finished 8th in 2002 and 9th in 2001 for R.E. Technologies Racing.
"Pikes Peak is probably one of my favorite racetracks to go to," stated Coons. "There is a lot or room and different lines you can run."
The track also presents a challenge to the engine tuners due to the altitude change. The Silver Crown™ competitors have a quick turnaround this week. The USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series will travel from Richmond, Virginia Saturday night to Fountain, Colorado for Sunday's Rocky Mountain Classic. Coons says that the team is up to the challenge and he expects good things this weekend.
"With all of the work that the guys have put into the car, I don't see why we won't be in contention for a win there."
COONS IS FAN OF HOOTIE
Jerry Coons Jr. is a fan of another headliner at Pikes Peak this weekend. The Arizona native owns several CDs by Hootie and the Blowfish and is planning on attending their post race concert at the track.
"I like Hootie and the Blowfish," smiled Coons. "I don't get to a lot of concerts with my busy racing schedule, so I am looking forward to hanging out there and enjoying it. Any time the promoters can make an event out of something and the Silver Crown cars are the headline, it is great for our series and the fans. I plan on staying all night and enjoying the rest of the show after the Silver Crown race."
The Rocky Mountain Classic features the stars of the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series, USAC National and Western Midget Car Series as well as competitors from the Star Mazada Series. A driver autograph session and the Hootie and the Blowfish concert are scheduled to immediately follow the Silver Crown feature. Southern Colorado's Largest 4th of July Fireworks Show is scheduled to follow the conclusion of the concert.
