Parnelli Jones to participate in on-track autograph session at the Mopar Twin 25'S Irwindale Midget he raced will be on display!
LAGUNA BEACH, CA - Legendary Southern California racer Parnelli Jones will be at the Mopar Twin 25'S Irwindale, Saturday night, April 26, where he will participate in the on-track autograph session starting at 6 p.m.
Presented by Mission Foods, the MOPAR TWIN 25's will be held at Irwindale Speedway, the half-mile paved oval race track located just off the 605 Freeway, between the 10 and 210 Freeways. Motorsports enthusiasts rank Irwindale Speedway as one of the finest race tracks in the country.
The USAC-sanctioned MOPAR TWIN 25's Midget race offers a spectacular $50,000 bonus prize to a driver who wins both of the night's 25-lap feature races. The exciting challenge of the TWIN 25's comes from the fact that the winner of the first feature race starts dead last in the second feature, and must pass the entire field in 25 action-packed laps to win the $50,000 bonus!
Associate Sponsors for the race are Team ASE, Edelbrock Corporation, Racer Magazine, K&N Engineering and Superior Super Warehouse.
Ed Justice, owner of Justice Brothers, is bringing the famous Hollywood Spring & Axle special, a Midget race car that Jones drove, to be on display at Irwindale Speedway the night of the MOPAR TWIN 25's.
"We are really lucky to have a place like Irwindale Speedway so close to Los Angeles, especially since Ascot closed," said Jones. "Naturally I've been to a lot of places and this is about all a racer could ask for."
Jones was named Indy 500 Rookie of the Year in 1961. The next year, he became the first driver to establish a lap speed of 150 mph at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Then, in 1963, Jones drove J.C. Agajanian's "Old Calhoun" Roadster to win the Indy 500.
In addition to his fabled career in open wheel cars, Jones has won the Baja 500 five times and the Baja 1000 three times. He also won five Trans Am victories, and the series championship in 1970, as well as a NASCAR Riverside 500 win.
"Having Parnelli Jones available for autographs is additional evidence that the MOPAR TWIN 25's IRWINDALE is more than just a race; it's an event!" exclaimed Steve Lewis, Premier Racing Entertainment, producers of the MOPAR TWIN 25's IRWINDALE. "With exciting quarter midget racing action from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the special preferred parking for hot rods, this day is a key date in the calendar for Southern California car culture."
The first race begins at 7 p.m., with qualifying beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at www.twin25s.com, and at the Irwindale Speedway ticket office. Reserved ticket seating is $25, and is available by calling 949/499-5414 or (800) 515-8445. General admission is $20.
