Dave Stele of Tampa, Fla. returns to Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway this weekend to defend his 2003 USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car victory at the 1-mile paved oval.

Steele has won a feature event in all three USAC National racing series each of the last four years and holds the 30-mile race record for the Sprint cars at Nazareth. He averaged 134.789 mph in winning last year's race.

Drivers will be aiming at J.J. Yeley's 1-lap track qualifying record of 140.950 mph, set last year, when qualifying begins at 4:45 pm Friday. The 30-mile Sprint Car feature is scheduled for 3:45 pm Saturday.

Steele became the fastest Sprint Car driver in the world July 3 when he qualified at an average speed of 144.980 mph at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado.

Jay Drake of Val Verde, Calif. is the current Valvoline National Sprint Car point leader, seeking his initial USAC National driving championship. It was Drake's World Record which Steele broke this year in Colorado.
