COORS LIGHT SILVER BULLET SERIES ADDS NAZARETH IN '99

NAZARETH, Pa. -- Nazareth Speedway and the United States Auto Club today announced a return to Nazareth for USAC's premier racing division, the Coors Light Silver Bullet Series (formerly known as the Silver Crown Series). For the first time since 1983, and the first time since Nazareth became a paved facility, the Silver Crown cars will tackle the tricky one-mile oval on Saturday, July 17.

"We are excited about returning to Nazareth in 1999," said John Capels, USAC president. "The Nazareth Speedway has undergone a very major change since its dirt track days and we are proud to be able to bring our Coors Light Silver Bullet Series to this facility. Pennsylvania and the neighboring area has a rich open-wheel racing heritage."

Nazareth Speedway, holds the distinction of having hosted the inaugural event in this racing series back on June 20, 1971. The winner that day was Jim McElreath. USAC hosted three more "Silver Crown" events at Nazareth, from 1982 through the 1983 season, with Keith Kauffman, Gary Bettenhausen and Jimmy Horton scoring wins. Previously, Nazareth also hosted two USAC national championship races, with Al Unser winning in 1968, and Nazareth resident Mario Andretti winning in 1969.

USAC will be joined on the July race weekend by the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

USAC's 1999 schedule for the Coors Light Silver Bullet Series is still being finalized, but tentatively calls for 14 events. The series will open its 1999 campaign on Saturday, January 23 at the Walt Disney World Speedway as part of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League's "Indy 200" weekend.
