Mopar Million race earns Eldora restored USAC President's Award
For its part in the historic Mopar Million Sprint at Eldora, Eldora Enterprises, Inc. received a prestigious award that had not been bestowed by USAC in 11 years.
At USAC's 48th annual "Champions Night" in Indianapolis Saturday, USAC President/CEO Rollie Helmling presented the USAC President's Award to Earl and Berneice Baltes, owners of Eldora Speedway, for their part in hosting the monumental Mopar Million Sprint at Eldora earlier this year.
The Mopar Million Sprint at Eldora was a dazzling success, offering a record sprint car purse of $1 million split among the 138 entrants. Winner Jac Haudenschild pocketed $200,000 for his victory in the A-main event on September 20.
Mopar will again be on board for sponsorship in 2004 at Eldora, headlining the "Mopar Thunder Sprint at Eldora," which is slated for August 7.
J.J. Yeley and Tony Stewart Racing Enterprises were also showered with awards for their Mopar-sponsored efforts of 2003. Yeley captured the USAC National Sprint Car championship by an awesome 352 points while picking up 14 victories in his No. 20 Mopar car. Yeley totaled a record 24 wins on the season during his charge to the USAC Triple Crown.
The Mopar Million Sprint at Eldora, held in September 2003, continues to garner attention from all sides.
J.J. Yeley's No. 20 Mopar sported a special "million dollar bill" paint scheme at September's Mopar Million Sprint at Eldora. He earned $60,000 for his fourth-place overall finish.
