Sun Prairie Midget Sanction Withdrawn. Stoops Freightliner Sprint cars will compete Sunday night.

The United States Auto Club has withdrawn its sanction of the Midget Car portion of Sunday night's Coca Cola "Showdown at the Prairie" event at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. due to tire rule considerations. USAC will sanction the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car portion of the program, which will conclude with a 30-lap feature on the 1/3-mile dirt track.

Lengthy discussions concerning variations of Midget car rules governing Sunday night's event included numerous concessions by USAC, however an exception regarding the left rear tire rule became an issue without resolution. Therefore, the USAC sanction was withdrawn.

"We regret to take this action," said USAC President Rollie Helmling, "but we were left with no alternative in maintaining the integrity of our tire rules in the best interests of our competitors.

Sunday's events get under way with practice at 2:30 pm. The first race is scheduled for 6 pm.
