LEFFLER MAKES IT ONE MORE FOR 1998
USAC star Jason Leffler added another championship to his 1998 season belt last week. Due to rain, the last event of the season at Las Vegas was washed-out; but the sun shone on Leffler as he walked away with the 1998 USAC National Midget Championship-his second consecutive midget title.
While we are speaking of seconds, it is also Jason's second title of the year as he clinched the 1998 USAC National Silver Crown Championship just a few weeks ago. Therefore, with three championships in a row, Leffler measures up to some of racing's elite, including Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart.
With 959 points in the season total, Leffler edged out many other notable midget/IRL drivers such as Billy Boat, Donnie Beechler, Brian Tyler and J.J. Yeley.
Leffler holds a lot in common with these drivers as he too has joined the IRL ranks this season and currently holds an IRL testing contract with Treadway Racing. "Jason is clearly a very talented young driver," team owner Fred Treadway stated. "He has demonstrated his abilities in midgets, silver crown and our IRL car. We are making every attempt to secure sponsorship funding for him for the 1999 season."
The USAC talent has proven that he has the skill to run competitively in the IRL as he has logged over 2200 miles in the Treadway Racing G-Force/Aurora/Firestone package this year and has posted lap times comparable with seasoned veterans.
The Treadway Racing team is in the process of finalizing sponsorship packages and driver selections for the 1999 season, announcements will be forth coming.
