2001 "Hut 100" winner Hines eyes Saturday's "Put 100".

Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. captured Friday night's 50-lap USAC National Midget Car race at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. He led all 50 laps in his Electronic Chrome & Grinding/A.J. Foyt Racing Pink Ford/Beast to beat J.J. Yeley, Ron Gregory, Dave Steele and Dave Darland.

Tracy Hines, who failed to finish the Kentucky feature after a mid-race tangle, is preparing for this Saturday night's "Put 100" at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind., the track where he won last year's 50th running of the "Hut 100" midget race. The "Hut 100" has moved back to the Terre Haute Action Track this year (July 3) so Putnamville is hosting the "Put 100," also a 100-lap event. Practice gets under way at 6 pm, with qualifying starting at 6:30. The first race is at 7:30.

Hines will have to contend with former USAC National Midget Car Champion Jason Leffler, Western Midget Car Champ Danny Ebberts, USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Champ J.J. Yeley, track record holder Jay Drake (12.975 seconds) and Kokomo, Ind.'s Shane Hollingsworth, also a USAC feature winner at Putnamville last year.

The fastest 16 qualifiers and the top five finishers from each of two 12-lap "qualifying races" will start the 100-lap main event at Putnamville.

Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. was the fastest qualifier at Kentucky Speedway Friday and emerged with the USAC National Midget Car Series point lead by just 11 points over defending series champion Dave Darland. Yeley ranks third in the current standings going into the "Put 100" Saturday.
