Rising NASCAR Busch Series star Kasey Kahne started eighth and finished first this afternoon in the Nazareth 100 USAC WELD Racing Silver Crown Series event at Nazareth Speedway. Kahne, forced to start eighth after dropping a cylinder during qualifying, took the lead from pole sitter J.J. Yeley on lap 59 and survived four restarts to win his third career Silver Crown race in convincing fashion.
"We didn't get many laps here," Kahne said after his second Silver Crown race of the year. "It's definitely a little adjustment to come back from stock cars to race these cars, but I've done it so many times now that it's getting to be second nature.
"I love coming back to USAC. It's where I won a lot of races and it's how I got to stock car racing."
Yeley, on a quest to become only the second person to win all three major USAC series in the same season, finished second after losing the lead to Kahne in heavy traffic on lap 59. He now has a 16-point lead over fourth place finisher Dave Steele in the Silver Crown drivers' championship.
Tracy Hines wound up third, followed by Steele, who led 40 laps in the early going after overtaking Yeley on lap 4, and Aaron Fike.
"We had a better racecar than third," Hines said. "We were easily a second, probably could have won, but lapped traffic was being really difficult. Track position killed us."
"It was not real good for us," Steele said. "I just got loose at the end. That's what we were concerned about, but sometimes there's no way to stop it. We did all we could do. We just can't seem to get a hold of the setup that runs these hard tires well, or at least as good as some other people. We were probably actually lucky to finish fourth."
Brian Tyler, Dane Carter, Tyler Walker, Dave Darland, and Eric Gordon rounded out the top-10.
