Open wheel ace J.J. Yeley's successful 2003 season continued when the Eastern Motorsport Press Association announced that he was voted the prestigious Al Hobert Memorial/EMPA Driver of the Year Award. The United States Auto Club (USAC) Triple Crown winner will receive the award in Holbert's home state of Pennsylvania in January 2004.

Yeley won the USAC Silver Crown, National Sprint and National Midget titles in the 2003 season. The second driver to accomplish that feat in a single season. Yeley's car owner and mentor, NASCAR Cup driver Tony Stewart was the first USAC driver to win all three titles in one season in 1995, before going on to win the 1997 Indy Racing League title and become NASCAR's Winston Cup titleholder in 2002.

Joe Gibbs Racing, which runs NASCAR Nextel Cup Chevrolets for Stewart and Bobby Labonte has already signed Yeley to run a combination of ARCA, several NASCAR Busch Series events and some selected Nextel Cup races in 2004 as the newest JCR driver.

Yeley recently secured a spot on the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) All-American First Team, making him eligible to recieve the Jerry Titus Award. The banquet to celebrate the All-American Team will take place January 10th in Pomona, CA.

Yeley's 2003 was a busy year as the talented driver went from one USAC racing series to another across the U.S. and it already appears that the young man will be bouncing around the country again in 2004. The month of January is already an indication of that fact, with testing and award banquets on his schedule and a possible appearance at the annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Oklahoma.
