Saturday night's 30-lap USAC Western Sprint Car race at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway honored the memory of Casey Diemert, the 23-year-old USAC driver who was fatally injured in the March 27 grand-opening event at the 1/2-mile paved oval.

Bud Kaeding captured the 30-lap race, leading all the way to post his sixth victory at the track this season and cap his inaugural USAC divisional championship.

The race offered an accelerated purse and a perpetual trophy has been designed as a permanent reminder of Diemert, who competed in both the USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Series and the Western Sprint Car Series.

The race is expected to continue to be a highlight of the USAC Western Sprint Car Series in future seasons.
