Aaron Fike of Galesburg, Ill. won Saturday night's 58th running of the "Night Before the 500" Midget Classic at Indianapolis Raceway Park, one of America's most storied auto racing traditions.

Fike led all 50 laps around the .686-mile paved oval in his McGladrey & Pullen/Azer Clinic Beast/Pink Ford to beat Tracy Hines, Bobby East, defending race winner Jason Leffler and Ron Gregory. Road to Indy fast qualifier J.J. Yeley finished sixth.

Preliminary 12-lap "qualifying races" were won by Teddy Beach and Jay Drake.

Yeley's finish enabled him to hold a slim two-point lead over East in the series standings going into this Sunday night's Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway USAC "tripleheader." The National Midget Cars share billing at the 1/4-mile dirt track with the National Sprint Cars and the Ford Focus Midget Cars. A 30-lap feature for the Midgets will join a 30-lapper for the Sprint Cars and a 20-lapper for the Ford Focus Midgets.

Practice at Lawrenceburg, which also hosts a Saturday night USAC Sprint Car event, starts at 6 pm each night.
