Weather creates historic Silver Crown showdown.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN.....With the postponement last Saturday of the "Hoosier Twin 50s" at Indianapolis Raceway Park due to severe weather, the stage is now set for the most spectacular back-to-back events in USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown history.
The Kroger Pavement/Dirt Showdown presented by the Dellen Automotuve Family will offer two straight nights of unprecedentes high stakes and high drama. Two nights of racing, on two dramatically different surfaces, with a $50,000 bonus to any driver who can sweep both events.
Thursday night, May 22, will feature the Silver Crown series on the fast .686-mile IRP paved oval for the Hoosier Twin 50s and the following night action moves to the vaunted Indiana State Fairgrounds one-mile dirt oval and the 52nd "Hoosier Hundred." The event marks the first time in the 32-year history of Silver Crown racing that events on paved and dirt ovals have been contested on back-to-back nights.
The Hoosier Twin 50s is also unprecedented in race format for the Silver Crown series. The 100-lap feature will be red-flagged at the 50-lap mark and a die will be rolled by the race leader to determine the number of cars inverted for the second 50-lap segment. The race will then resume with a double-file restart.
Race organizers Team 6R Promotions have posted a $50,000 reward for the driver who can win both Thursday's "Hoosier Twin 50s at IRP and the Hoosier Hundred on the following night, adding another dimension to the already heated Silver Crown competition. In all, approximately $150,000 is at stake within a scintillating 30-hour period.
The rescheduling will no doubt delight race fans who will be attending Carburetion Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 22. IRP is located just a few minutes west of IMS near Clermont. The Indiana State Fairgrounds is just a hop and skip east, located at 38th Street and Fall Creek Parkway in Indianapolis.
