CARL EDWARDS/ R.E. TECHNOLOGIES RACING BRING HOME THIRD CONSECUTIVE PODIUM OF THE SEASON AT IOWA
NEWTON, Iowa -- Cameron Dodson and the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing brought home the team's third consecutive podium finish of the young season Saturday afternoon at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. Dodson earned a second third place finish in only his second start in the USAC Silver Crown Series presented by K&N.
"I thought today went great but we need to get over getting third place," Dodson smiled. "This is the second time in a row we have taken third. Maybe next time we can bump it up to second or first."
Cameron Dodson drove the No. 199 Ford powered Hoosier Tire/ Red Line Oil, C&R Chassis to a sixth quick position during practice. When it came time to qualify, the team made a few changes on the car to improve speed but after a poor qualifying time, Team Manager Chris Santucci elected to return to the setup they unloaded with. The decision would mean the team would be forced to start the race from the tail but it was the right one.
When the green flag fell on the "Casey General Stores USAC Triple Crown" Silver Crown race, Cameron Dodson calmly made his way through the field and by the halfway point had climbed into the top five. Dodson battled with 2006 USAC Silver Crown Series Champion Bud Kaeding before setting his sights on veteran driver Aaron Pierce in the closing laps.
"The Pierce and the A.J. Foyt cars are really good so I figured once I got up there we would finish well," said Dodson. "I gave Aaron Pierce a good try but I just couldn't stick it all of the way."
Bobby East driving for A.J. Foy would win the race. Pierce would win the battle with Dodson finishing third but the young driver was happy with his second podium in only two starts.
"It was fun racing against Aaron. I just thought it was neat that we came from fifteenth to third. Ford, Hoosier Tires, Red Line Oil, Chris Santucci and all of the guys at Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies gave me a great car."
Cameron Dodson and the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team will have the opportunity to shoot for a first or second place finish in a few days. Round four of the USAC Silver Crown Series, the "USAC Silver Crown Showdown at Darlington" is slated for this Thursday, May 10th at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina.
The No. 199 Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Ford, Hoosier Tires, Red Line Oil entry remains in first place in the USAC Silver Crown Series owners points. Cameron Dodson improved to 7th in the series drivers points standing despite not driving in the season opener at Manzanita Speedway.
