THREE STARS TO DRIVE FOR R.E. TECHNOLOGIES AT IRP
Memphis, Tenn. -- August 2, 2005 -- Three of the best drivers to climb behind the wheel of an R.E. Technologies Racing Silver Crown car will face one of the toughest Silver Crown fields Thursday night at the J.D. ByRider 100 Indianapolis Raceway Park. Newly crowned Belleville Midget Nationals Champion, Jerry Coons Jr. will pilot the No. 35 CURB Records/ Valvoline/ J&J/ Gaerte Chevrolet powered machine. Hendrick Motorsports Busch Series driver, Boston Reid returns home to drive the No. 135 J&J Silver Crown car also with Chevrolet power. Roush Racing NASCAR superstar, Carl Edwards returns to the team to drive the No. 191 TMC Transportation/ Ford Racing Silver Crown car with Ford power under the hood.
The three drivers tested with R.E. Technologies Racing at IRP in July with good results. The team hopes to take those results and record top finishes for all three cars.
"I really think we learned a lot testing," said Boston Reid. "Carl (Edwards), Jerry (Coons Jr.) and myself were all working together, trying to make each other faster."
Reid will use his knowledge gained from testing to the max this week. The Indiana native and his R.E. Technologies teammate Carl Edwards are pulling double duty at the .686 mile paved IRP oval. Edwards says, he is looking forward to working with his R.E. Technologies Racing teammates and this weekend.
"Roger and Chris and all the guys at R.E. Technologies are awesome," said Edwards. "They are great people and fun to be around. They definitely have what it takes to win races. I think their talent and equipment coupled with a Ford powered engine will make for a great combination at IRP. I'm also looking forward to having Boston and Jerry as teammates this week. They are both really great race car drivers and together I think we have the potential to run really strong for R.E. Technologies."
The driver of the No. 191 TMC Transportation Silver Crown car has been to victory lane at IRP before. In 2001 Edwards won a Baby Grand, stock car series race and in 2003 won the Power Stroke Diesel 200, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.
"IRP is such a great race track." Edwards continued, "I've been fortunate enough to win there a couple of times and I'll never forget what that feels like. I think the best I finished there in a Silver Crown car was third so it would be awesome to be able to go back and win at IRP in the USAC Silver Crown Series, that would be a great accomplishment."
In addition to racing the No. 191 TMC Transportation/ Ford Thursday night and the No. 60 Charter Ford in the Busch Series race at IRP Saturday night, Edwards is scheduled to pilot the No. 99 AAA Ford at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Tickets to the J. D. Byrider 100 on Thursday and the 24th annual Kroger 200, Benefiting Riley Hospital for Children on Saturday are on sale at IRP or by calling 800-884-6472.
