"TED HORN 100" AT DuQUOIN SEPTEMBER 6; 3RD START PRODUCES "TONY BETTENHAUSEN 100" WIN FOR WHITT!

The "Ted Horn 100" at the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds September 6 is round eight of the 2009 USAC K & N Silver Crown Championship and Bud Kaeding's point lead stands at 59 points over Illinois driver A.J. Fike after last weekend's "Tony Bettenhausen 100" at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Fike finished fourth and Kaeding seventh at Springfield, a race won by series "rookie" Cole Whitt.

Fike won the pole at Springfield Saturday but Whitt grabbed the early lead in his Ferguson-Moen/Red Bull Eagle/Brannan Chevy and led all 100 laps despite late-race pressure from runner-up Jon Stanbrough. Levi Jones took third ahead of Fike and Josh Wise. Saturday's race was slowed by three cautions.

The victory for Whitt came in only his third series start! It also marked the first series win for chief mechanic Keith Kunz, a Springfield native.

A total of 66 points are available at DuQuoin so Kaeding's lead is in jeopardy as he tries to become only the second driver in history to win a third series title. Jimmy Sills was the first.
