VINCENNES, IN (April 30, 2001) -- The Andretti-Helmling Team CARQUEST Coors Light Silver Bullet team will return to action this weekend as the USAC series moves on to Nazareth, Pennsylvania for the third event of the 2001 season. The #44 CARQUEST Auto Parts team with driver Bud Kaeding opened the season in February at Phoenix, but after a disappointing start with a blown engine, they skipped the last event to regroup for this weekend.
"The Nazareth race will be our first race with a new Gaerte engine," said Rollie Helmling, who is a team co-owner with John Andretti and partners of a CARQUEST store in Vincennes, Indiana. "After our engine problems at Phoenix, John and I decided that we must make a change in engines. Our Jones engines made great power but needs additional testing so we decided to put that program on hold. In 1997 when I was the crew chief on Gary Zarounian's cars and we finished in the runner up for the national championship were we used Gaerte engines so I know they are a very competitive proven package. Earl and Joe Gaerte and their staff have been very helpful and the new power plant is installed and ready to go."
When driver Bud Kaeding hasn't been driving the CARQUEST Silver Bullet car, he has been competing in the USAC Sprint Car series.
"Bud's off to a great start with his Sprint Car team and we are looking forward to this weekend's race at Nazareth race because we are beginning the first time that we are returning to tracks we have previously raced," Helmling said. "Last year's Nazareth race was our first as a team and Bud's first Silver Bullet Series race."
The USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet series will run in conjunction with the CART series this weekend. Practice starts Friday at 8:00 a.m. There is another practice session at noon, then qualify at 5:00 p.m. The 100-mile feature race is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
