Yeley wins Cedar Rapids Midget feature.

J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. won Friday night's 30-lap USAC National Midget Car feature at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA, leading the final 23 laps after passing early leader Teddy Beach. He later won the 30-lap Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car race and became the first driver to "sweep" a pavement USAC National Sprint/Midget Car "doubleheader" since Doug Kalitta did it at Winchester, Ind. in 1995.

J.J. is among series point leaders who will return to Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. for Friday night's 50-lap race on the 1/4-mile paved oval there. Dave Steele has a four-point lead over defending series champion and Kentucky Speedway feature winner Dave Darland, while Yeley ranks third, 20 points in arrears.

Bobby East finished second at Cedar Rapids, ahead of Darland, Aaron Fike and Michael Lewis. Brian Paulus, Ron Gregory and Darland won the heat races and Yeley was the fastest qualifier.

Yeley piloted the Steve Lewis Ford/ASE/Performance Racing Industry Pink Ford/Beast to the Iowa win and will be joined by teammates Darland and East at Kentucky Speedway.

Practice at Kentucky starts at 5 pm and qualifying gets under way at 6:15. The first race is at 8:15.
