FOCUS RACING AT SALT LAKE CITY & NEW CASTLE; CARLSON, POWELL, BUTCHER & RAIN EMERGE VICTORIOUS

USAC Ford Focus racing occurs on two fronts this week. The Indiana Series debuts at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. Thursday following last Wednesday night's rainout at Anderson, Ind. The Auto Trader Utah Developmental Series continues Monday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Nick Carlson, James Powell and Charlie Butcher each recorded feature wins in USAC Ford Focus action last week.

Carlson, of Norwalk, Calf., led all 20 laps to win Saturday night's California Dirt race at Ventura Raceway. Alex Bowman, Austin Williams, Austin Smith and Midget veteran Wally Pankratz rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag. Bowman emerged as the new series point leader, 11 ahead of Walt Johnson. Junior Focus point leader Charlie Butcher won the 20-lap Junior Ford Focus feature.

James Powell of Herriman, Utah was the winner of Saturday's 30-lapper at Salt Lake City. He was declared the winner after Kipp Posey was penalized one position as a result of a restart infraction. Posey wound up second ahead of Jeff Kelley, Greg Fuette and Billy Cox. Posey leads the series standings entering Monday's race.

Thursday night's program at New Castle, Ind. also includes the Regional and Kenyon Midget Series, with 30-lap features scheduled for each series.
