HICKORY, ANDERSON HOSTS FOCUS RACES; GEHRKE, FAAS SCORE WINS AT GAS CITY, VENTURA

Tanner Swanson, James Robertson and Chett Gehrke will try to remain atop respective USAC Ford Focus Series standings this weekend as the Carolina series visits Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway and the Midwest and Indiana series conclude at the Anderson (IN) Speedway.

Swanson holds a 27-point lead over Michael Sboro in the Carolina Series presented by the Richard Petty Driving Experience, while Robertson leads Gehrke by just four points in the Midwest standings and Gehrke's lead in the Indiana series is 18 over Eric Fehrman. The Anderson events, with preliminaries Saturday and features Sunday afternoon, will determine 2007 champions in both the Midwest and Indiana series. The Hickory program unfolds Saturday and Sunday at the .363-mile paved oval.

Gehrke, of Broken Arrow, Okla., won Friday's 25-lap Midwest feature at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway, passing Robertson on lap 18 and leading the final eight laps in his Indy Performance Composites/Scooter Ellis Rentals Beast. Robertson finished second ahead of Alison MacLeod, Mitch Harble and Tyler Irwin. Ronnie Wuerdeman led the first 16 laps, before Robertson led lap 17.

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, Calif. passed Ricky Kirkbride on lap 19 and led the final two laps to win Saturday's 20-lap California Dirt Series feature at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway in his Beast. Kirkbride led the first 18 laps and finished second ahead of Walt Johnson, Nick Carlson and Dennis Howell. The California Dirt series resumes October 20 at Ventura.
