RACES ON TAP IN NEW YORK, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, OHIO & CALIFORNIA; DeBARD, SWANSON, GEHRKE, HANSEN & RAIN TOP FOCUSES
The Midwest, Indiana, California Pavement, Northeast and USAC/UMARA Ford Focus Series continue their 2007 schedules this week with races slated in Plymouth, Ind., Mansfield, Ohio, Irwindale, Calif., Williamson and Chemung, New York and Morris, Ill.
Chett Gehrke of Broken Arrow, Okla. leads the Midwest and Indiana series to events at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway Wednesday and the Midwest series continues at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park Saturday. He's 18 points ahead of James Robertson in the Midwest standings and 39 ahead of Eric Fehrman in the Indiana points. Last Wednesday night Gehrke won the 33-lap "Hines Family Night" feature at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. in his Indy Performance Composites/Scooter Ellis Rentals Beast. He led all 33 laps of the "Wednesday Night Thunder" race presented by the Richard Petty Driving Experience to beat Craig Haack, Alison MacLeod, Robbie Parish and Andy Nock.
Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. led all 35 laps in his Tracy Trotter Focus to win Friday's Carolina Series race at Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C. over Andre Villareal, Mark Burt, Rick Fedrizzi and Michael Sboro. His victory gave him the series point lead by four over Sboro going into an August 18 race at Kenly, N.C.
Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach, Calif. and Beau DeBard of Reno, Nev. Scored victories in California Focus action, Hansen winning Thursday's dirt race at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway and DeBard taking Saturday's pavement race at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. Hansen passed Robby Josett on lap 12 and led the last nine laps in his John Wells Focus to beat Josett, Nic Faas, Thomas Gray and Jet Davison. DeBard led all 35 laps in his Ron Sutton's Winners Circle Focus to beat Ian Miille, Justin Hommel, Tim Skoglund and Daniel Adler.
Skoglund has a 32-point lead over Faas in the California pavement series entering this Saturday's race at Irwindale, while Faas leads Dennis Howell by 99 going into the next California Dirt race September 15 at Bakersfield, Calif.
Rain forced cancellation of Saturday night's scheduled USAC/UMARA race at the Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Mario Clouser of Auburn, Ill. has a 50-point lead over Mark Wachter entering this Saturday's race at Grundy County.
