Audra Sasselli of Fresno, Calif. became USAC's 10th female feature race winner and the third in 17 days with her 30-lap victory in Saturday night's race at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. She led all 30 laps in her Custom Hay Roadsiding/Clawson Motorsports Stealth.
Sasselli was one of five drivers to post wins in USAC Ford Focus action as series championship point races are heating up. Four events are on tap for the Focuses this weekend, at Lima, Ohio, Watsonville and Petaluma, Calif. and Indianapolis, Ind.
Sasselli was trailed at Madera by Josh Lakatos, Bobby Grewohl, Bradley Galedrige and Bobby McGowan. She ranks sixth in the California North series, which visits Watsonville Speedway Friday night and Petaluma Speedway Saturday night. Galedrige continues to lead the California North standings after his fourth-place finish.
Brad Loyet of St. Louis, Mo. and Robbie Ray of Davenport, Iowa captured Midwest Ford Focus features at Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Sun Prairie, Wisc. Friday and Sunday nights respectively. Loyet led all but the first lap at Hawkeye Downs Friday night after passing Joshua Clemons on lap two. He and his Hoosier Midwest/Weld Racing Beast were trailed by Tate Martz, Rex Norris III, Clemons and Travis Young. Ray caught Jordan Noblitt on lap nine at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie Sunday night and led the final 22 laps in his Valvoline/Simpson Beast to beat Noblitt, Brice Kenyon, Loyet and Clemons. Martz finished seventh and emerged with 23-point lead over Rex Norris III going into this Friday night's race at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio.
Chase Scott of Concord, N.C. continued his drive to the 2004 Carolina/Virginia title with a 30-lap feature win at South Boston (Va.) Speedway Saturday night. He passed Mike Ward on lap four and led the rest of the way in his J & L Industrial Supply/2 Quick Shocks Beast to beat Aron Oakley, Robbie Ray, Mike Ward and Danny Bopp. Scott now leads the Carolina/Virginia Series to Friendship Motor Speedway in Elkin, N.C. for an August 20 race.
Rex Norris III of Knightstown, Ind. won Wednesday's 50-lap Ford Focus race at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome. He led the final 22 laps in his Rex Norris Company/OFI RS Restraint Beast to beat Brent Berry, Brandon Wagner, Stephanie Mockler and Andy Baber, while series point leader Brice Kenyon was 14th. The Speedrome series continues this Wednesday night with another 50-lapper on tap.
