Noblitt, Martz, Lakatos (2) & Conway Score Focus Wins Speedrome Wednesday, Bakersfield Saturday
The busiest week of USAC Ford Focus Midget Car racing in history produced four different winners in five races. Jordan Noblitt of Columbus, Ind., Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind., Josh Lakatos of Pasadena, Calif. and Kevin Conway of Lynchburg, Va. all posted victories as five different Focus point standings were affected. The Indianapolis Speedrome hosts the Focuses this Wednesday night as part of its weekly "Open Wheel Wednesday" programming also featuring the Regional Midgets and Kenyon Midgets. All Speedrome features are 50-lappers. The California Ford Focuses will compete Saturday at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway, with a 25-lapper on tap. Noblitt led all 50 laps at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome Wednesday to beat Ryan Litt, Andy Baber, Rex Norris III and Samantha Weakley. The race offered both Midwest and Speedrome Focus points and Noblitt and his Robert Allen, MD/Columbus Silgas Beast are the early leaders in the Speedrome standings going into this Wednesday night's events at the 1/5-mile paved oval. Martz caught Nick Wagner on the 11th lap of Friday night's 30-lapper at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park and led the rest of the way in his Greg Steele Duffy-Warble Beast. Litt, who leads the Midwest series standings, finished second ahead of Noblitt, Norris and Brad Loyet. The Midwest series resumes May 21 at Lima, Ohio with Litt holding a 22-point lead over Norris. Lakatos wheeled his Steve Bristing Matco Tools/Race Truck Trends Beast to California victories at Watsonville Speedway Friday night and Kings Speedway in Hanford Saturday night. He led the final two laps of the 25-lapper at Watsonville to beat Chris Rahe, Bobby Michnowicz, Eric Pace and Bradley Galedrige. Bobby McGowan, Brett Engstrom and Michnowicz all led the race before Lakatos made the winning move. At Hanford it was all Lakatos as he led wire-to-wire to win the 25-lapper over Rahe, Michnowicz, Ashley Swanson and Engstrom. Lakatos trails Rahe by 21 points in the new California North standings but leads Rahe by three points in the new South standings. Conway led all 30 laps in his Pro Xtreme Valve Train Hawk to beat Danny Bopp, Chase Scott, fast qualifier Mike Ward and Travis Jones in Saturday night's Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus 25-lapper at South Boston (Va.) Speedway. Conway qualified fourth and finished fifth in the recent King Taco 200 NASCAR Grand National race at California Speedway in Fontana, won by Ken Schrader. Scott continues to lead the series standings going into a June 4 race at Elkin, N.C.
