Tate Martz, Brice Kenyon and Bobby Michnowicz recorded USAC Ford Focus feature wins last week and three Ford Focus series continue with races this week in Indianapolis, Ind., Ventura, Calif. and Sun Prairie, Wisc.
Martz, of Rushville, Ind., won Saturday night's accident-interrupted 25-lap Midwest feature at Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway and now trails series leader Ryan Litt by only seven points going into this Sunday night's race at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. A 25-lapper is on tap at the 1/3-mile dirt track.
Michnowicz, of Harbor City, Calif., won Saturday night's 20-lap California South race at Perris Auto Speedway and now ranks third in the series standings behind leader Chris Rahe going into this Saturday night's race at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. A 25-lap race is slated at the 1/5-mile dirt track.
Brice Kenyon won Wednesday night's 50-lap Speedrome Ford Focus feature and leads the series points entering this Wednesday's Traderindiana.com & Wheels & Deals presents "Open Wheel Wednesday" at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome.
Martz led the final four laps at Columbus in his Duffy-Warble Beast to beat Brandon Hartsell, Chase Scott, Kenyon and Robbie Ray in the race which also carried Carolina/Virginia "special event" status. Brad Loyet, who led the first three laps of the feature before yielding to Hartsell for the next 18 laps, suffered a concussion and knee wounds in a flip on the 22nd lap of the race. He was treated at Columbus' Childrens Hospital and held for observation.
Martz' win was his fourth in a row in the Midwest Series, a record. Only nine drivers in USAC history have won more races in succession in a single series, namely A.J. Foyt, Billy Vukovich III, Larry Dickson, Rich Vogler, Parnelli Jones, Norm Nelson, Billy Boat, Michael Lang and Alex Harris.
Michnowicz' initial USAC feature triumph in his Timeless Enterprises/Torco Racing Oil TCR came in a wire-to-wire performance at Perris, beating Josh Lakatos, series leader Chris Rahe, Bobby McGowan and Cal Smith.
Kenyon passed Brent Berry on lap 19 and led the final 32 laps at the Speedrome Wednesday in his H & H Automotive/NAPA Kenyon car. Lady driver Stephanie Mockler, Jamie Williams, Kevin Studley and Paul Crafton rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag.
