SOUTH BOSTON, VA (MARCH 10, 2003)--Officials of the United States Auto Club and Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway announced that the USAC Ford Focus Midget Cars will make their inaugural appearance in the Southeast on November 15. The Focus Midgets Cars will compete in a special non-points event in conjunction with the Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway season finale, a 300- lap NASCAR Late Model Invitational.

"The USAC Focus Midgets can be a big success here in southern Virginia and North Carolina," said Joe Mattioli, owner of South Boston's four-tenths-mile racing facility. "They are an affordable way for our racers to get involved in open wheel racing, and with Ford's support, it is a very visible series."

"Racing at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway is an exciting opportunity for the USAC Ford Focus Series," stated Eric Bunn, USAC National Coordinator, Ford Focus Series. "As the Ford Focus Midget Series grows, we hope to be able to run a full regional season in Virginia and the Carolinas to give drivers the chance to begin their professional racing career in the same way Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and so many others who started their road to the top in a USAC Midget Car. It's also a great vehicle to showcase their talent the larger racing community."

The USAC Ford Focus Midget Series features a single source, spec engine produced by SCREAM of Harbor City, Calif. The engine is based on the Ford Zetec 2.0 liter engine used in the Ford Focus ZX3. SCREAM installs mechanical fuel injection, a racing oiling system, headers, starter, clutch and flywheel. The Zetec long block is as produced on Ford's assembly lines. The engine sells for $7,800 and offers competitors an affordable, reliable and drivable engine package.

The 2003 USAC Ford Focus Midget Series opens its California Regional calendar March 15 at Ventura Speedway in Ventura, Calif. The Indiana Ford Focus Series kicks off April 6 at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Ind. For further information, contact USAC at 317-247-5151.

Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway will kick off its 2003 season with the Sheetz Spring Fling 300. The Sheetz Spring Fling 300 will feature twin 150-lap races for NASCAR's Late Model Stock Division and could potentially be one of the season's richest races, paying $15,000 if a driver can sweep both races. Double points will also be awarded for the first race.
