USAC Regional Midget racing takes a hiatus this week, preparing for the September 13 appearance of the Kenyon Midgets at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. The Regional Midgets conclude their 2008 campaign September 27 at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich. The Indiana Ford Focus Midgets close out the season October 4-5 at Anderson.
Mario Clouser of Auburn, Ill. won Saturday night's 40-lap Illinois State Midget Auto Racing Championship USAC Regional Midget feature event at Grundy County Speedway. Clouser passed Jim Anderson on lap five and led the rest of the way to beat Anderson, Mario Marietta, Aaron Andruskevitch and Dakoda Armstrong. Travis Young extended his series point lead with his ninth-place finish.
Young, of Franklin, Ind., led all 30 laps of Wednesday night's Inaugural "Alex Pruett Memorial" race at Anderson Speedway, putting his BG Products Beast/Esslinger Ford in victory lane. Armstrong finished second ahead of Parker Klingerman, Alison MacLeod and Zach Daum. Pruett's parents were on hand at Anderson to present the distinctive winner's trophy to Young.
Caleb Armstrong of New Castle, Ind. and Grant Galloway won 30-lap Kenyon Midget features this past week, while Drew Charlson posted a pair of second-place finishes to remain atop the series standings.
Armstrong won Wednesday's race at Anderson, leading all 30 laps in his Bungee North America/Anderson Grain Yamaha to beat Charlson, Jeff Wimmenauer, Galloway and Taylor Ferns. Galloway, of Lakeville, Ind., passed Craig Dollansky on lap five at Anderson Saturday and led the rest of the way to beat Charlson, Dalton Armstrong, Dillon Welch and WImmenauer.
Steven Mathews of New Likeard, Ont., Canada won Wednesday's 30-lap Midwest/Indiana Ford Focus feature at Anderson, leading the final six laps after passing series point leader Kyle Hamilton on lap 25. Craig Haack took second ahead of Hamilton, Julia Landauer and Chett Gehrke. Jordan Pennington led the first three laps before yielding to Hamilton.
