USAC Ford Focus action continues at a fever pace this week as events are slated in Utah, North Carolina, California, Indiana and Illinois.
James Robertson of Indianapolis, Ind. scored feature wins in both the Midwest and Indiana series last week. Both series compete his week, the Indiana series at Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. Wednesday and the Midwest series at Gas City (IN) I-69 Speedway Friday. Robertson leads the Midwest standings but Robby Parish sits atop the Indiana points. Robertson and his Gregg Steele Racing/Lucas Oil Beast led all 30 laps of last Wednesday's Midwest/Indiana race at Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway, then led all but two laps to win Friday's Midwest 30-lapper at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jordan Pennington, Andy Nock, Eric Fehrman and Parish trailed at New Castle, while Tyler Irwin, Chett Gehrke, Caitlin Shaw and Pennington trailed at Cedar Rapids. Gehrke led the first two laps.
Jesse State of New Hyde Park, N.Y. won Saturday's 25-lap Northeast feature at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway, leading all the way in his Bay Auto Center/Bonsignore Kart Shoppe machine to beat Steven Intravaia, Jon Seaman, Jeff Abold and P.J. Stergios. Abold still leads the standings going into a June 16 race at Chemung, N.Y.
Mario Clouser of Auburn, Ill. won Saturday's 25-lap USAC/UMARA Focus opener at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. The track hosts the series again this Saturday, with Clouser leading the series points. Following Clouser's Illinois Corn Marketing Board Beast were Caitlin Shaw, Bill Griffith, Mark Wacher and Sara Hyslop. Shaw led the first lap and Clouser led the rest. The race was held in concert with the UMARA Sportsman Midgets, with the Focus cars ranked by "class" finish, but Clouser was also the overall race winner!
Rain forced cancellation of Saturday's Carolina series race at Florence Motor Speedway in Timmonsville, S.C. The series continues this Saturday at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont (Durham), N.C. Tanner Swanson holds a two-point lead over Rick Fedrizzi.
Nic Faas and Tim Savage also lead USAC Focus Series into action this weekend. Faas heads the California Dirt series as it visits Ventura (Calif.) Raceway Saturday, while Savage leads the Utah Developmental Series, which continues Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City.
