MARTZ LEADS MIDWEST FOCUS MIDGETS TO LAKEVILLE; FISHER WINS FIRST CAREER USAC RACE AT KENTUCKY QUARTER

A week after its most high-profiled event of the season, the Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series return to the dirt surface and Lakeville Speedway in Lakeville, Ohio, with Tate Martz of Rushville, Ind. at the helm in the points standings.

Martz finished fifth in Saturday's combined Midwest-Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus feature at Kentucky Speedway, won by Midwest pavement regular and series rookie Derek Fisher of Columbus, Ind. Fisher led all 20 laps on the quarter-mile oval inside the 1.5-mile superspeedway for his first career USAC victory, driving the No. 97 Keith Kunz Motorsports Vital Express Bullet.

Fisher was trailed by Stephanie Mockler, Carolina/Virginia Focus points leader Chase Scott, James Robertson and Martz. Josh Clemons, who won last year's race at Kentucky, finished sixth. The event preceded the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.

Martz clinched the 2004 Midwest Ford Focus championship at the 3/8-mile track in Lakeville, finishing seventh in the race. The first scheduled event at the track in 2005 was rained out.

Martz leads Mockler by 67 points heading into the second half of the Midwest season. <pre> MIDWEST FORD FOCUS MIDGET CAR SERIES STANDINGS 1. Tate Martz 642 2. Stephanie Mockler 575 3.
