"Vogler Classic" 100-Lapper This Thursday Night!

The Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome hosts its first USAC National event in 15 years this Thursday night, the "Vogler Classic." A 100-lap feature event caps the full evening of activities, following

50-lap features for the Midwest/Speedrome Regional Midgets and Kenyon Midgets.

Indiana drivers Chris Manifold of Indianapolis, Brice Kenyon of Lebanon and Brent Beauchamp of Fairland scored feature wins at the 1/5-mile paved oval last Wednesday night. All are expected to be in action this Thursday at the track where Rich Vogler won the last USAC National race in 1989, a 500-lapper.

Honoring the memory of the late Rich and Don Vogler, Thursday's event has drawn not only added lap prizes but the entries of drivers like USAC Triple Crown Champ Dave Darland, National and Regional Midget point leader Bobby East and others. Practice starts at 4 pm and racing gets under way at 7:30.

Manifold earned his initial USAC feature win in his Custom Images/Keco Coatings King/VW, leading the final lap of the 50-lap Regional Midget race after a tangle sidelined leaders Matt Maners and Aaron Pierce. Maners had led the first 49 laps. Norm Young finished second ahead of Tom Hessert, Rex Norris III and Travis Young.

Kenyon, son of seven-time USAC National Midget Champion Mel Kenyon, earned his initial USAC feature win Wednesday, leading the final 26 laps of the 50-lap Ford Focus Midget feature. Series point leader Andy Baber finished second ahead of Trenton Darland, who led the first 24 laps, Travis Young and Kyle Robbins. Brice wheeled the 3-K Racing H & H Automotive/NAPA Special.

Beauchamp passed Nick Bohanon on lap 16 and led the rest of the way in his Concrete Connection Yamaha to win the 50-lap Kenyon Midget feature over A.J. Morgan, Bohanon, Zach Jacobs and Dakoda Armstrong. The win kept Beauchamp undefeated in this year's Speedrome Kenyon Midget races.

The QMA Quarter Midgets, which were originally scheduled to race last Wednesday, were postponed to June 9 by rains which delayed the start of the racing program at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome.
